Luján Votes to Block Trump Administration From Plunging the U.S. Into Another Endless War
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after voting to advance a bipartisan War Powers Resolution that blocks the use of the U.S. Armed Forces to engage in hostilities within or against Venezuela unless authorized by Congress:
“President Trump’s actions in Venezuela drag our country and our servicemembers closer to yet another endless war with no clear plan or transparency. While I support targeted efforts to hold cartel members and narco-terrorists accountable, plunging the Western Hemisphere into further chaos without a clear strategy or path toward peace and stability is not the answer.
“I’m grateful the Senate had the courage to advance this bipartisan resolution and make it clear that President Trump cannot continue to illegally ignore congressional authority. Congress must now pass this resolution to ensure it exercises its constitutional war powers to prevent future attacks on other nations – including our neighbors and allies – without warning.”
