Luján Statement Commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, issued the following statement to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, is which celebrated from September 15th through October 15th:
“In New Mexico and across the nation, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the deep roots, rich culture, and immeasurable contributions of Hispanic communities. Throughout generations, Hispanics have played an essential role in every part of American life. Our values, resilience, and hard work continue to shape the future of this country.
“This year, we mark this month at a difficult moment for our community. The Supreme Court issued a ruling that targets Americans who look Latino, speak Spanish, or work certain jobs – a direct attack on our basic liberties and freedoms. Yet history shows us: we will not back down. We will continue to serve, grow our businesses, feed this country, educate the next generation, and stand up for what is right.
“This month, let us not only celebrate our heritage but commit to standing up for our rights, expanding opportunity, and paving the way for the next generation of Hispanic leaders.”
