Luján: Republicans Push $1,000,000,000 for Trump’s Ballroom While Families Struggle with Rising Costs

Joint Economic Committee found that small businesses lost 4.5 times more jobs in 2025 than 2020 amid Trump’s tariffs

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on Congressional Republicans proposing $1 billion for President Trump’s ballroom, while doing nothing to lower costs for working families struggling with rising health care, grocery, energy, and housing prices:

“Families across New Mexico are struggling with the rising costs of groceries, health care, housing, and energy. While President Trump continues fighting a war in Iran, gas prices are going through the roof. Instead of focusing on lowering costs, Congressional Republicans are pouring billions more into Trump’s rogue ICE operation while proposing another $1 billion for the president’s personal ballroom. That’s $1 billion that could be helping working families, but instead will be spent on President Trump.

“Americans don’t need a ballroom. They need lower costs, affordable health care, and an economy that works for our families. I will fight this bill every step of the way because New Mexicans deserve leaders focused on lowering costs and delivering for our state.”
