Luján Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Arizona Voting Rights Case

Farmington, N.M. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court upheld a Republican-led effort in Arizona to restrict voting access:

“Republican-led state legislatures are undermining the sacred right to vote and blocking Hispanic, Black, Native American, and minority voters from accessing the ballot box. Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a setback for voting rights, but this fight is far from over. I am proud to be leading the Native American Voting Rights Act to safeguard voters’ access to the ballot box on Tribal lands. Congress should pass the Native American Voting Rights Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to restore fair elections and safeguard Americans’ sacred right to vote. After this decision, we have a necessary and urgent obligation to do so.”
