Luján Announces Guidance From DOJ for Claimants Following the Recent Extension and Expansion of RECA

Guidance From DOJ Comes Following Bipartisan Push Led by Luján to Secure Detailed Guidance for Claimants to Access the RECA Program

Albuquerque, N.M. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) has secured guidance from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for claimants seeking compensation through the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) program. This follows a bipartisan push led by Senator Luján to ensure that claimants can access the program. With the recent extension and expansion of RECA, the DOJ has now opened applications for new claims and for expanded eligible populations.

Application instructions from DOJ are available here.

Claim forms for claimants are available here and below:

“In New Mexico and across the country, thousands of Americans sacrificed in service to our national security. Following the recent extension and expansion of RECA, more Americans will now be delivered the justice they are owed,” said Senator Luján. “I’m thankful that following my push to secure clear guidance from the DOJ, claimants now have the instructions they need to apply for and receive compensation through RECA. I have long fought for RECA, and I am committed to ensuring RECA is implemented urgently and that families receive the compensation they deserve.”

Since being elected to Congress, Senator Luján has played a leading role in advancing legislation to strengthen the RECA program, introducing RECA legislation in every Congress and twice passing it through the Senate.

Last month, Senator Luján led a bipartisan letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer to swiftly provide detailed guidance for claimants to access the RECA program following its expansion and extension by Congress.
