Protecting Public Health: Senator Luján is pushing back on deep cuts and mass firings at health agencies that threaten our response to measles, opioids, and public health crises. He’s working to restore more than $12 billion in canceled state health funding and reinstate support for family planning and community clinics.

He’s also fighting mass layoffs that impact New Mexico’s federal workforce and veterans.

  • Signed letters demanding reinstatement of unlawfully fired Inspectors General and labor board officials.
  • Opposed Trump’s executive order ending collective bargaining for federal workers.
  • Demanded data on federal worker layoffs and their impact on services in New Mexico.
  • Exposed how veteran employees and civil servants were targeted by mass terminations.

Supporting Veterans: Veterans are among the hardest hit by these cuts. Senator Luján is standing up to protect their health care, benefits, and the VA staff who serve them.

  • Raised the alarm about DOGE plans to cut 80,000 more VA staff.
  • Demanded that the administration exempt the VA from the hiring freeze.

Preserving Public Lands and Clean Energy: Senator Luján is fighting to protect New Mexico’s public lands, clean air, and water. He voted to overturn President Trump’s attack on clean energy, opposed efforts to weaken methane emission rules, and pushed to reverse Trump’s layoffs of public land workers and plans to sell off public lands to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy.

Defending Education and Students: As the Trump administration guts education programs and student protections, Senator Luján has demanded answers. He’s fighting to reinstate income-driven repayment, save diversity and scholarship initiatives, and stop Elon Musk’s DOGE from accessing sensitive student loan data.

  • Opposed HUD and DOGE efforts to cut the Office of Fair Housing and lay off staff enforcing anti-discrimination laws.
  • Called for a Special Counsel to investigate senior officials’ use of Signal to share classified information.
  • Urged the DOJ to preserve and report on the Election Threats Task Force and other election security efforts.
  • Signed onto letters opposing unconstitutional executive orders on voter registration and birthright citizenship.
