Members of N.M. Delegation Announce $10.3 Million in Infrastructure Law Funding for Water Infrastructure Upgrades, Urges State to Fully Utilize Funding

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) announced that New Mexico will receive $10,336,000 in Infrastructure Law funding through this year’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF).

This federal funding must now be administered by the State of New Mexico in order to support communities in upgrading essential water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure that protects public health and treasured water bodies across New Mexico.

“Water is vital for every community and it’s critical that we take advantage of every opportunity to ensure our water infrastructure is up-to-date and ready to meet New Mexico’s needs,” said Lujan. “I look forward to working with New Mexico state leaders to fully utilize this funding to make critical water infrastructure upgrades.”

“No one wants to deal with the mess, health concerns, or economic impacts of faulty sewage lines. That’s why I’m urging the State of New Mexico to fully utilize the federal funding we are delivering from the Infrastructure Law and work with every community to invest in these critical water infrastructure projects,” said Heinrich

“Clean water infrastructure is absolutely essential to the public health and well-being of our communities,” said Stansbury. “As a lifelong water resources professional, I’m proud that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is delivering over $10 million to support sustainable water infrastructure for communities across New Mexico, and I am grateful that New Mexico communities can work with our state’s leadership to fully utilize this vital investment to support our long-term water needs, safeguard our waters, and protect the health of every New Mexican.”

“Water is the lifeblood of our community. Having access to clean, safe, and reliable water is essential to preserving our public health. This funding will provide New Mexicans with the tools to support much-needed water infrastructure upgrades across the state,” said Vasquez.

New Mexico Congressional Democrats championed the Infrastructure Law that makes over $50 billion available for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements across the country between FY2022 and FY2026.
