Luján to President Trump: Fire Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller
Washington, D.C. – This week, following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued statements condemning the violence, opposing the Homeland Security funding bill without real accountability, and demanding the resignation or firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller.
As a then-U.S. Representative, Luján called for Miller’s firing as far back as 2019. Senator Luján opposed the confirmation of Secretary Noem and called on her to resign in June 2025 following the forcible removal of Senator Alex Padilla from a press conference in his home state.
January 28th: “Here’s a thought: Fire them both.”
January 27th: “Stephen Miller is the architect of some of the worst and most dangerous of the Trump administration’s policies. This includes the chaos in Minnesota. I called for his firing years ago, but he continues to serve in this White House. When will enough be enough? He should be fired.”
January 27th: “No one is above the law or accountability. Secretary Noem should resign or be fired, but President Trump continues to stand by even his most dangerous administration officials. The House is right to move forward with an investigation into Secretary Noem. Americans deserve accountability and transparency.”
January 26th: “The American people saw with their own eyes a U.S. citizen shot and killed by President Trump’s federal agents. Yet this administration continues to lie and cover up what happened. What must happen now: a full and independent investigation; Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller must resign or be fired; and not another dollar for Noem’s DHS without real accountability.”
January 24th: “Kristi Noem and Donald Trump’s ICE is out of control and terrorizing our communities. With multiple deadly shootings of American citizens by federal agents in Minnesota and no accountability, I will not support an appropriations bill that funds DHS without real oversight, transparency, and consequences. President Trump, Kristi Noem, and Stephen Miller are making our communities and all Americans less safe. Enough is enough.”
January 24th: “Sickened by what just happened in Minneapolis. Another person was shot and killed by Trump and Noem’s ICE agents. Senate Republicans cannot keep pretending that this is normal or isn’t happening. ICE is terrorizing neighborhoods, entering homes without warrants, not allowing local law enforcement to do their job, and now another person is dead. Republicans: Stand up to President Trump to put an end to this. No more bullshit. No more excuses.”
